Marathons and Speedruns and Battles (Oh My)

Hi, everybody, it’s SpaghettiWeegee! I’ve been quite busy lately, leaving me sparse time to work on my guide (sorry, Chapter 4 of the Phantom Hourglass Walkthrough will still be up soon, I promise), but, seeing as how I have a free moment now, I’d like to make a quick post on something going on in the video game marathon community.

So, anyway, as you know, recently, Zelda Eternity hosted an in-house video game marathon, and all in all, apart from a few minor details, the event was what you could call a success. Now, GameMarathons.com, a website that helped promote our own marathon, is holding one of their own this September. That’s right, yet another Zelda marathon is coming your way, and soon too! GameMarathons.com’s big event is scheduled to begin the 10th of September, so mark it down on your calendars. What seperates this marathon from the rest, though? Well, this marathon is what you call a “Vs. Marathon”. Simply put, instead of just playing through a bunch of games for several days straight, two (or more) speedrun teams will be competing against each other to see who can earn the most “points” before a set time limit is up. The points will be awarded when the competitors complete specific goals in each game, a la an XBox 360esque achievement system. Sounds fun, right? Anyway, the big event is set to last a measley 60 hours, which, in my experienced opinion, isn’t quite enough to complete the entire Zelda series, regardless of how fast you can clear each game, however, if the speedrunners recieve enough donations, they’ll extend the marathon another 30 hours for our viewing enjoyment, hopefully giving them enough time to complete the series. And yes, when I say “the series”, I do mean the entire series. Both speedrun teams will be playing through the ENTIRE Zelda series, including Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks (provided they have enough time). Personally, I think this’ll be a great event, and you can count on me being there (and hopefully picking up some pointers on how NOT to take 23 hours on Ocarina of Time : P).

What’s that? You want to know more, you say? Well, you’re in luck! Just click over to this site and read up on the event.

Well, that’s it from me. Expect Chapter 4 of the Phantom Hourglass Walkthrough to be uploaded sometime this week. Anyway, see you…

LATER!

Haha, how not to take 23h, yeah :)
And also, how to beat *name-not-allowed* – probably not, how to listen to the chat, though… (*cough*)

    I'll probably be there :)

They're not strictly "racing" through the games. They're actually trying to beat set achievements (a la XBox 360) to get the most points within the set time limit. I'd love to participate if I had a team and all of the games. I'm only missing five!

Maybe you guys should sign up to compete. That'd be enjoyable.

Fix'd. Thanks for pointing that out.

And, us compete? Heh, as much as I'd like to, we don't have nearly enough time to prepare for it. Eh, oh well, maybe next time, right?
