The Super Smash Bros. Brawl Fansite Tournament!

Wow, it’s already November, and it’s going to be quite a month! We’ve got Skyward Sword coming up in a matter of weeks, as well as Zelda Eternity’s third birthday. Plus, I’m sure many of you gamers are excited for all sorts of other games that are releasing this month. Now, I’m sure you’re wondering what this current announcement is all about, so let me go ahead and explain..

Zelda Eternity, LegendZelda.net, Metroid Headquarters, and Shinesparkers.net are all participating in what we’ve dubbed as a “Fansite crossover tournament”. Basically, these four sites will first hold individual preliminary tournaments online with Super Smash Brothers Brawl, and the winner from each site will enter in a final round against each other. The final winner will receive a grand prize of either the Skyward Sword Bundle or Metroid Prime Trilogy, whichever they want (only one can be chosen). Each website will organize their own preliminary tournaments in their community first, and must have them complete by November 28th.

Now, you may be wondering how in the world we’re going to organize all this. It’s simple, really. Hit the jump to read on the details and rules.

Our main tool of communication will be each site’s forums. First off, to sign up for the community tournament (one entrant per friend code), you must post in the respective thread of your community and share your Friend Code and of course, confirmation that you want to enter (post here for ZE). If you’re from more than one of the communities, you can enter in more than one of the community’s tournaments, but if you win on both sites you must pick a site to represent and a runner-up will take your place.

Everyone must sign up for the tournament by posting in their community’s thread by November 11th. From there, the staff of the respective sites will randomly organize the match-ups and have them posted by November 14th on the forums in a special thread. Then, the individual battles may commence, with each person contacting their match-ups to find a convenient time to Brawl, and they must post in that thread when they plan on Brawling. To be able to move on to the next round, the winner must be confirmed by both players on the forums in a separate thread that will be made. If both people have not posted the same winners, then both will be disqualified. Or if one of the participants hasn’t posted confirmation on the winner, then he/she will be disqualified and the other person will get to move on whether or not they won or not. The reason behind this rule is so the following rounds won’t be delayed unnecessarily.

The match rules are pretty basic. It must be a 3-stock match, and to be fair, no items. By the 28th of November, all rounds for the individual tournaments must be completed and there must be a winner. If not, unfortunately one will be chosen at random. Following that, the four sites will organize the two final rounds with the four winners, and the final victor will be the winner of the grand prize of their choosing.

Before this final is held, there will be an exhibition match between the four representing webmasters of the four sites. This match will be streamed live and the date for that will be set some time soon after the 28th but before the final rounds take place.

SO NOW, the announcement has been made. You can now enter your individual site’s tournaments on their forums. For Zelda Eternity, click HERE to sign up.

Amazing idea! Count me in! =D

    Two questions, actually.

If the winner of a round says that he won, but the loser doesn't say anything, will the winner really be disqualified?
Also, there is only /one/ battle per round, right?

  2. Diablo says:

This should be amusing. I'm in.

I have a suggestion. If the winner of a round says they won, then the other combatant should have 48 hours to respond, if not then only they should be disqualified, and the winner should still move on.

    • Skermefaten says:

You brought up a good suggestion, which has been added in. Thank you. ^_^

I just got an even better idea. It might be a little hard to arrange, but for instance, you Skerme, can join all of the matches and then on purpose die right away. Then you will be able to see the whole match and who wins. You will be just like a judge. Then /you/ are the /only/ one saying who won in the thread.

But of course, this won't work out if you're participating yourself. Perhaps someone else can take the role as a "judge". Or perhaps there possibly can be more judges.

        • Skermefaten says:

I actually won't be participating since I'm creating the match-ups. XD; And we thought of having a judge for the matches, but it would would that make it more difficult for finding a good time to Brawl with the players. Plus..who knows if that'll increase the lag with another person?

          • Emhave says:

As I said, it might be a little hard to arrange. I admit that I didn't think about the lag, though.

  4. MajoraMan says:

Is their going to be anything to compensate for the MEGA-LAG problems that brawl has?

  5. A_LINK_IN_TIME says:

Wow, ZE is rapidly aging! Can't wait for SS!

  6. lololrofl says:

Will it be the Skyward Sword bundle?

  7. Flyingpotato says:

So excited but so nervous ^_^; I should really go train right now.

  8. link to present says:

This sounds fun count me in

  9. DodongoBomber says:

I wish I could participate, but of course I lost my copy of brawl a while ago. I'll just help with the behind the scenes stuff I guess XD!
