What would have happened if Link had left Ordon before it was invaded? Here's my take on the story that would have taken place in this scenario! This is a short story in the form of short chapters. This post is the first of a few chapters, so if you like this, look for the next posts coming soon. None of the characters belong to me, only random ones I made up. :) Enjoy, and please give feedback! Thanks! :D
I lounged in the tall grass of the Ordon Ranch, lost in thought. So much had happened recently; Rusl told me of his fears for the future and of course the whole Talo-monkey incident yesterday. What were those horrible creatures in the forest? Ordon was rapidly becoming a danger to the village; what would happen if they got too close to our land?... No, nothing could happen. Rusl would never allow anything to happen to anyone.
The clouds drifting above me were mesmerizing; I allowed my mind to continue to wander as the warm sun radiated down on me. I heard a voice call to me from the distance that forced me to snap out of my reverie.
"HEEEEEEEEEY!" Fado jogged up the hill toward me from the barn, waving at me anxiously. I staggered to my feet stiffly, as he slowed his pace and caught up to me, panting loudly. I had to stifle a laugh as I waited while he continued to gasp for air. He finally straightened and smiled down at me.
"So, I guess you'll be leaving soon, eh, Link?" he asked hoarsely "I was wondering if you might help me herd the goats and close up early today before you left?" I couldn't say no; I nodded and hopped on Epona.
I couldn't quite place my finger on it, but for some reason, it seemed as if the goats were eager to get inside the barn... I barely had to get near the goats for them to run inside. When i went to close the barn doors, i noticed they all cowered in the corner of their pens, as if hiding from the outdoors... I had no time to think about why they would act this way. I blew it off, hopped on Epona, and waved good-bye to Fado as I rode back toward the village.
I rode past everyone on my way out the village to be able to say my good-byes; Ilia, Mayor Bo, Talo and Malo, Pergie, Jaggle, Beth, Sera, Hanch, Colin, and Uli. I saw Rusl in the distance near the entrance of the village, waving me over to him. I smiled and galloped to his side, and together, we exited the village.
We walked in silence for a long while; we finally reached the bridge where the gate was locked tight. He unlocked it quickly, pushed it open, and stepped away shyly.
"Well, Link, I suppose this is it. You're off on your own big adventure into the heart of Hyrule. Are you excited?" he asked quietly. I could tell this was hard on him.
It was also hard on me; I couldn't respond to his question, so I just nodded, hiding my face behind my shaggy hair.
"That's good. You'll come back here a changed man when your journey is done. Here are the gifts to the Royal Family; take good care of them," he said, handing up to me a large bundle with the Ordon symbol on the top. I tied it neatly to Epona's saddle on my side and looked back down at him; he was hiding his face, sniffling.
"Well, go on then! Don't keep them waiting!" he said in a choked up voice. I began to ride away when I heard him yell, "And Link? Don't worry about us here at the village. I'm going with Mayor Bo to check out the disturbance in the forest to make sure it never happens again. No one is in danger here, I promise. Good luck!"
I couldn't bare to turn around and face him again without breaking down; I held my breath as I rode Epona across the bridge and into the forest, away from Rusl, away from Ordon, and away from my beloved family and home.
Again, please give feedback on chapter 1; i'll try to add the next few very very soon! Thanks so much, everyone, for reading! :)
