At the beginning of Majora's Mask, you start off with your trusty Kokiri Sword which is a good weapon but it could use a power boost. Just take a visit to the Mountain Smithy in Mountain Village. Below, you can find out how to get your Kokiri Sword to a Razor Sword and into a blade just as powerful as the Master Sword.

Razor Sword
In order to upgrade your sword, you must melt the furnace by using either Hot Springwater, Fire Arrows, or just defeating Goht, the Snowhead Temple boss. To upgrade, you will need to pay 100 Rupees and then come back the next day, assuming you paid on the first day.

Come back to the Mountain Smithy the next day and pick up your Razor Sword. Your sword is twice as powerful as the Kokiri Sword but there is one flaw. The sword will revert back to the Kokiri Sword after 100 slashes so only use it when needed.


Gilded Sword
In order to upgrade to this sword, you will need to beat the Snowhead Temple for starters. This will cause the snow to melt all over the Snowhead region and you can participate in the Goron Races. Now, you will need a Powder Keg to blow up the boulder which would be in the area on your way to Goron Village.

Powder Kegs can only be used by talking to one of the Biggorons and getting a Powder Keg to blow up the boulder. Go back to the Goron to get the Powder Keg as an item. Now, you must come in first in the Goron Races as a Goron to win a Bottle full of Gold Dust.

Now head back to the Mountain Smithy and trade in the Gold Dust you just won and come back the next day. Go back in the next day and pick up the Gilded Sword. It is four times as powerful as your original Kokiri Sword and is technically as powerful as the Master Sword at this point.
