Oracle of Ages: Items

There are lots of items and weapons to be found in Labrynna that are necessary to complete the dungeons and destroy the bosses. Not counting the items used in the Trading Side Quest, here is a list of what you can acquire and use in the game, as well as where to find these treasures.

Wooden Sword

Shortly after the game starts you will receive the Wooden Sword from Impa. It deals out normal damage but is also the weakest sword in the game. The dull blade never breaks and was obviously made from a lacquered wood, else it would break with use. It might take a while for you to find a better sword, but at some point you should consider getting an upgrade.

Noble Sword

Upon completing the arduous trading side quest, take the final item to Patch at the top of Restoration Wall and get the Noble Sword. This new sword deals out double damage and enables Link to shoot sword beams and shatter jars. It's well worth the trouble, for more information on how to get this sword see our guide for the Trading Side Quest.

Master Sword

Throughout history the famous Master Sword has appeared in the hands of the chosen hero. The Noble Sword is a fair match, but only this sword can truly harm the Demon King Ganon. This is one of those few occasions where we see both Ganon and the Master Sword outside the land of Hyrule. Create a secret or linked file to get the Master Sword, as it cannot be found in a normal play through. To do that you will need a special password.

Biggoron Sword

This is another one of those weapons that will only appear in your game if it's a password/linked file. The Biggoron Sword inflicts the most damage out of all the swords in the game. It smashes jars and kills most enemies in one hit. It even has a longer blade, and a longer range. There are some downsides to this onslaught of power, though, due to the fact that it is two handed. It can't shoot beams, and it takes up both the A and B buttons.

Wooden Shield

A shield is for sale at the shop in Lynna City. The first time you enter Lynna you will see this shop right away. If you go inside you will notice that the Wooden Shield is priced at 30 rupees. When you can, purchase the defense based item. It certainly is the smallest shield, offering you the least cover. Serviceable, to a point; if nothing else this item will fill up an empty space in your inventory.

Iron Shield

The Iron Shield is slightly larger than the wooden version. It gives you added defense and protects you from more dangerous projectiles. You'll need the Mermaid Suit to reach it. Swim on the western side of Crescent Island and, to the left of Moonlit Grotto in the past, there is a small pool of blue circular barriers. Swim in between them. When you get by that part, there will be another barrier blocking your goal. This time, dive down and pop back up on the other side. Enter the cave and talk to the Tokay to get the Iron Shield. He says he's been polishing it for a while, so it's really shiny.

Mirror Shield

This is another item found in a password/linked file and is not found in any of the dungeons. You have a chance to get your hands on this beauty by exchanging passwords with a Somarian by the mystery seed tree in Rolling Ridge. But even though it is marked as a level three shield, it is no different than your level two Iron Shield. It has the same defense capabilities and is not needed to defeat Ganon. It also can't be purchased at Lynna Shop after it's been devoured by a Like-Like!

Seed Satchel

Used to hold the many different types of seeds found on specific trees throughout Labrynna. With it, you can light torches, harm foes, dash faster, warp, or even get hints about what you need to do next, all by selecting the right type of seed for the job. You earn the Seed Satchel during the beginning of the game. After rescuing the Maku Tree in the past from pesky Moblins, leave the area and step in the blue portal to travel back to the present. Talk to The Maku Tree again, and she will give you the Seed Satchel.

Seed Shooter

It's no sharp shooter, and the item's range is so limited that it could be considered disadvantageous to use during combat. At certain points in the game, you'll need the short range projectiles to complete most of the later dungeons and slay several bosses. Use the shooter to take out enemies and light torches from a distance. You'll find this item in the third dungeon, Moonlit Grotto.

Bombs

There are some rooms that are hidden by weakened walls that are cracked and can easily be blown open with bombs. You can get these explosives shortly before the second dungeon, Winged Cavern. After getting Mystery Seeds and retracing your steps, you will be stopped by one of Queen Ambi's palace guards. He will tell you that Queen Ambi is searching for Mystery Seeds. After being taken to the palace, Queen Ambi will thank you with explosives. They are a huge help in dungeons for getting rings, heart pieces, and more. Bombs also help you defeat enemies, especially the Pol's Voice. They even help you destroy the final boss, Veran, and are required to open the second dungeon.

Bombchu

A mobile explosive that can be used to blast open an entryway from afar. This weapon can only be acquired while playing on a password/linked file. Bombchus are especailly useful for heavily armored foes; time your shot or just wait for the enemy to cross your path. To learn more, see our Secrets Guide, which will be available soon.

Shovel

Allowing you to clear and unearth large piles of dirt and debris, it's one of the easiest ways of revealing recovery hearts and rupees. It is also one of the earliest obtainable items and is very helpful for finding other lost items such as Ricky's Gloves. Suprisingly, the shovel is even needed to beat the subterror miniboss of the third dungeon, Moonlit Grotto.

Strange Flute

Used to call for either Ricky, Moosh, or Dimitri. These animals are needed throughout the game due to the fact they each come with their own special skill set. Be sure to note that you can only have one of these three friends tag along with you for the rest of your adventure. The pet that you get out of the three is determined by how you go about getting this instrument. See our Flute Guide for more info.

Harp Of Ages

The Harp of Ages is the most important item in the gaem. It allows you to travel between the past and the present. You will acquire this item shortly after the first dungeon. Below are the different tunes you can play on the harp:
Tune of Echoes: The Tune of Echoes is the first song you learn to play, learning it from a sending of Nayru right after picking the instrument up. The song is used for activating dormant time portals, which helps you find your way between the two ages and progress. Because these warps are not located everywhere in Labrynna, it can be difficult on occasion.
Tune of Currents: This song allows you to freely move from the past into the present (not vice versa) without having to track down a dormant portal. You learn these notes on your journey to Restoration Wall to repair the Tuni Nut. This song also leaves behind a return warp, so if you decide you need or want to go back to the past, you can do so easily.
Tune of Ages: The Tune of Ages is the most powerful tune in the game. It allows you to travel freely into the past almost anywhere, and from the past back into present! It is needed to get to the seventh and eighth dungeons. You learn this song after the sixth dungeon.

Switch Hook

Much like the hookshot from previous Zelda installments, but instead this of grappling onto an object and pulling Link over to it, this item allows you to magically switch places with certain objects and enemies throughout the game. It is one of the game's more useful items, and is used often in several dungeons, including Hero's Cave. There is also an upgrade for the Switch Hook.

Long Switch

The Long Switch is found inside Jabu Jabu's Belly, and is a Switch Hook with longer range. You can use it to switch places with enemies, and find faraway treasures like heart pieces and rings. With it you can explore distant areas that were, until now, unreachable.

Cane Of Somaria

A cane that creates a block out of thin air by simply pressing the button it is set to! This is helpful because there are many dungeon rooms where it is required to have two or more objects to move around, in order to hold down multiple switches at the same time. The Cane of Somaria is found in a place called Crown Dungeon. It's needed to end Smog's wrath, and fully explore the dungeons after Level Five.

Roc's Feather

Roc's Feather is a nifty item that allows you to jump up into the air. It makes your body lighter and allows you to easily flip over small holes and crevices. It is Obtained in the second dungeon, and becomes a huge help when fighting bosses. With it, you can dodge/leap over enemy attacks. This feather is also used for getting rings, heart pieces, and other collectible items throughout the game.

Power Bracelet

The Power Bracelet allows Link to easily lift up and throw heavy objects and other special obstacles. With it equipped, he gains a physical strength boost. The power bracelet is needed to get through every dungeon, acquire a lot of rings, discover pieces of heart, and many other collectibles. The Power Bracelet can be upgraded, making Link even stronger.

Zora Flippers

You cannot swim without the Zora Flippers. They enable you to stay afloat in shallow water and make your way across rivers. They are found on the road to Cresent Island. Simply talk to Chevel in the past, and then journey to the graveyard in the present. There, you will temporarily enlist the help of Moosh. Fly him over the holes around the northwest quarter of the cemetary and push one of the last graves there to the left. Travel down through the passage to find this aquatic accessory. The item has its limits though; you cannot swim in the deeper ocean waters with the Zora Flippers.

Mermaid's Suit

An upgraded version of the Zora's Flippers, and the dungeon item of the sixth den of evil, Mermaid's Cave. The difference between this item and the flippers you had earlier is the fact that you can now dive down deeper to even lower depths. This suit also enables you to swim in the ocean's deeper waters, and allows you to move faster through strong currents. Another useful item, and is used to search out quite a few magical rings. It is also needed to get through Jabu Jabu's belly and the Ancient Tomb.

Ring Box

Get a Ring Box from Vasu to carry all your rings in. It is one of the easiest items to obtain, as all you have to do is talk to Vasu, the ring merchant in Lynna City. The L-1 Ring Box can only carry one ring at a time, but if you get all the upgrades, you'll be able to carry up to five rings! To learn how to expand your Ring Box, see our OoA site section, Item Upgrades, which hasn't been made yet.

Ring

Rings are found all throughout Labrynna and, depending on the type, can hinder or help you. When you first find a ring, it will do nothing, and will stand on your secondary items screen, dormant and useless. You need to get it appraised at Vasu's Ring Shop in Lynna City. There are 64 magic rings to collect in this game, and they are found scattered throughout dungeons, caves, and so on. Some, like the Armor ring L-3, are incredibly hard to acquire, and require you to complete hard, challenging sidequests. While others are merely handed to you! See our Rings Guide on how to collect all of the rings.

Graveyard Key

To reach the first dungeon and truely begin your quest, you'll have to search out the Graveyard Key. From the entrance of Yoll Graveyard, head east, then down a set of stairs, continue down this path and soon you will see two dried-up trees. Burn the tree below you to reveal a staircase leading downwards. Light the two torches below to get the Graveyard Key. Now you can clear the gate blocking the eastern portion of the cemetary.

Tuni Nut (Broken)

When you arrive at Symmetry Village for the first time in the Present, it will be in ruins. Lava and falling debris will be tearing this small town apart. That's because a certain important guardian has been broken. After journeying to the past and accepting the quest from the twins in the main, central house, visit one of the brothers in the northern part of the village. They'll give you the broken Tuni Nut. When you have Patch succesfully repair it, it will become the fixed Tuni Nut.

Tuni Nut (Fixed)

Fixing this is needed in order to access the fourth, lava-filled dungeon. You gain it by taking the broken Tuni Nut to Patch at the top of Restoration Wall. When you manage to climb the vines and arrive there, talk to Patch. He'll tell you that you can "attempt" to fix the Tuni Nut by trying to complete his "Ceremony." In this destructive ritual you need to push all the hard hat beetles into the pits at each corner of the room. If the cart slips onto the track where your Tuni Nut is, you fail. You can stand on the switch to ensure this does not happen. Once you beat Patch at his own game, the Tuni Nut is broken no longer.

Stone Tablet

To get to the last boss of the final dungeon, you will need to fetch a number of Stone Tablets. These tablets will later be placed on an altar inside of the Ancient Tomb to reveal a staircase, leading you to the boss door. In all, there are four Stone Tablets in Level Eight.

Essences

Instead of Triforce Shards, Fused Shadows, or Instruments of the Sirens, you'll be seeking out the Essences of Time. These essences are your reward once you triumph over a dungeon's boss. Without the eight essences from each dungeon, you will not be able to enter Veran's Black Tower.

Maku Seed

Once you kill the eight bosses and get all the Essences of Time, travel to the Maku Tree and she will give you the precious Maku Seed. It does nothing other than unite all eight essences. You are not able to battle Veran without this item.

Cheval Rope

Dungeon Three is on Crescent Island, which you will not be able to get to in a hurry unless you have a raft of some sort. To construct a raft, you need rope that won't decay from seawater. After visiting Cheval's grave and getting Zora's Flippers, swim left to the top most area of the tomb. If you give this special rope to Rafton, he will begin building your raft. But until you find the island chart near the Woods of Time, Rafton won't finish working on the makeshift sea vessel.

Ricky's Gloves

After talking to Rafton and having him agree to build you a raft, journey to the prairie bordering present day Lynna City to find the mopey marsupial known as Ricky. Ricky can be found in the Woods of Time right near where you started the game. He lost his gloves and needs someone's help. Journey to the beach south of here and dig up the mounds of earth at the west end of the beach to find Ricky's Glove. If you take them back to Ricky he will agree to help you and let you hop in his pouch.

Island Chart

Once you give Ricky his boxing gloves back, ride inside his pouch to the southwest exit of the Woods of Time. Tornado punch the grass and hop over the holes and up the cliffs to find one of my favorite video game characters of all time: Tingle! Jump slash his balloon to pop it and then talk with him. He will befriend you and give you his Island Chart. The Island Chart doesn't really do anything in the game, aside from simulating the passage of time as you finish this fetch quest. Now Rafton is done working on your temporary raft.

Bombflower

In order to free the Goron Elder, you will need a Bombflower. The only issue here is that a selfish beast called the Great Moblin has taken all of these explosives away. Journey to his castle in the present and use pegasus seeds to swiftly run across his disappearing floor. Go down the stairs and through the door there to do battle with this fiend. Throw the bombs he throws at you back at him using your Power Bracelet. After you blow him up, you'll obtain the Bombflower.

Crown Key

Once you defeat the Great Moblin in his own palace, you'll get a bomb flower. Take it to the Gorons, who are attempting to rescue the Great Goron Elder in the past. Upon saving him, The Great Goron Elder will reward you with the Crown key. This key is essential if you're going to Level Five, Crown Dungeon.

Old Mermaid Key

A keyhole means you need a key. The Old Mermaid Key is a close copy of its twin brother key and is needed to access Mermaid's Cave. Give Goronade to the tired, worn out Goron running the Big Bang game. It will get him all energized, and he will give you one free game in return. Use your Roc's Feather to jump away from the falling bombs. Pegasus seeds also help. After a victory, he will give you the Old Mermaid Key.

Mermaid Key

To get to the present day Mermaid's Cave, you'll need the Letter of Introduction. After giving the Goron in the cave at the middle, left area of Rolling Ridge, east, (Past) Lava Juice, take this piece of paper to the Graceful Goron. (the one who runs the Goron Dancing minigame) in the past. Succesfully win the minigame to unlock the second Mermaid's Key.

Letter Of Introduction

This piece of parchment is needed to get the Mermaid's Key. Start off by getting Lava Juice (score over 100 points in the Goron cart minigame) and take it to a cave that lies near the middle left portion of Rolling Ridge on the eastern face of the cliff. In the cave, trade the Goron there your Lava Juice to get this letter.

Lava Juice

Go to the Goron cart minigame in the present. Lift the rock outside the entrance to reveal a hidden portal. Now play the Tune of Echoes to warp to the past. Enter the cave to find another fun minigame! (Or "annoying", depending on your point of view.) This is basically the same as the target game in Lynna Village, just relocated. If you're able to rack up a score of 100 points or more you get Lava Juice.

Goronade

After picking up the Goron Vase, take it to the Goron dance hall in the past. Generously give the vase to the Goron guarding the staircase, and he will reward you with Goronade. Like the other items you find on Rolling Ridge, east, this energy drink helps you acquire both Mermaid Keys.

Goron Vase

If you stunned the Gorons in the target minigame with your sharpshooting skills and gained the Rock Brisket, pay a visit to the Goron guarding the staircase in the present day dance hall. If you end his ravenous hunger with the Rock Brisket, he will thank you, giving you his prized piece of pottery, the Goron Vase.

Rock Brisket

If you blast your way through the Goron cart minigame once, you will gain a tasty piece of food called the Rock Brisket. This nutritious boulder can be exchanged with the Goron guarding the stairs of present day dance hall for the Goron Vase.

Brother Emblem

The first item in the painstaking trading quest for the Mermaid's Key is the Brother Emblem. Simply complete the Goron dancing minigame once in either past or present to earn it. You can now go up the stairs the Gorons are blocking in the dance hall. They now move for you because they think you're a "Brother"!

Book Of Seals

The Book of Seals is needed to solve the hidden floor puzzle. Traverse your way to the Library of the past. Open it using the Library Key you got from King Zora. Warp back to the present and go inside. Walk around the building and then talk to an older gentleman there to gain this guidebook.

Fairy Powder

Teleport to the past version of the library and go inside. Walk up one screen and place your Book of Seals on the pedestal. It will tell you a set of directions, and if you follow them, you will stay safely on the floating path that leads to the next pedestal. Placing the book on each pedestal will open up a new path, and make the old path dissapear. If you successfully make it without tumbling down into oblivion, an old-er man will award you with Fairy Powder! This magical substance is used to clean the polluted seas.

Zora Scale

After you survive Jabu Jabu's belly, a Zora outside will gladly thank you for saving his king, cleaning their seas, and risking your life to save Labrynna. He will graciously give you the Zora scale, which can be traded for the Tokay Eyeball later on.

Tokay Eyeball

The Tokay Eyeball is needed to get to the final dungeon. Show the Zora guarding a small alcove of coral your Zora Scale (in the past), and he will move for you. Swim into the area he was blocking and resurface. If you paddle your way north to a mobile pirate ship, you can trade your scale with the captain of that ship. The Tokay Eyeball is needed to open a dangerous passageway leading to another, more dangerous maze. If you live through both areas, you can enter your last mind-boggling peril, the Ancient Tomb.

Rupees

In Labrynna the only currency they use is rupees. Rupees are a helpful collectible in the game. You need them to buy the shield, an upgraded ring box, a heart piece and lots of other goodies. They can be found anywhere in Labrynna. Enemies drop them, heavy objects might cover them, and even the grass might hide them. You can also dig rupees up with the shovel.

Heart Piece

There are big heart-shaped fragments of love scattered throughout the land of Labrynna. Collecting four of these will grant you one extra heart, adding to your total amount of life. Some are given to you as a reward, or they could also be hidden in a secret area, while others are in plain sight. For more information on how to get them, see our Heartpieces Guide, which is another ongoing project.
